Tony_Urwin Posted June 25, 2007 Report Posted June 25, 2007 I need to replace the kingpins in my B1C. The previous owner had one replaced; and it is now very tight. The other side has some sloppiness. My question is: Is it possible to remove the backing plates from the spindles without disconnecting the brake hoses? My brakes are working so well, I hate to have to bleed them all over again. Quote
MBF Posted June 25, 2007 Report Posted June 25, 2007 Yes-that should be possible. You'd have to remove the 2 major adjustment bolts(concentrics) at the bottoms of each show, and then the bolts that hold the backing plate to the spinle-make sure that you hang them from something so that the flexible hoses don't kink. mike Quote
grey beard Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 Lots luck with those king pins. Most of the ones I have seen required pulling the axle assembly - no biggie - and using a blue nose wrench in concert with a big press - naaaaasty work! Good Luck:) Quote
Tony_Urwin Posted June 26, 2007 Author Report Posted June 26, 2007 I think I will probably pull the whole axle and take it to the machine shop. They want $35/side to do the machine work, and $75/side if I let them do the whole thing. So, I decided to save a lot of cuss words. $80 more and I will have the opportunity to replace the brake hoses at the same time, since I will be bleeding them anyway. Quote
Jim Roach Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 Talking about the brake hoses, how difficult is it getting to the connection inside the frame rail? Thanks guys, Jim Roach Quote
