Barry Maxwell Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 I ordered an exhaust system from Roberts for my '51 B3C-116 truck. Gary noted that, given the length of my bed, I would need a tail pipe extension. He thought that it should be "about" 8", but he wasn't sure. I assume that one end of the extension would be connected to the rear of the muffler with a clamp and the other end would be welded to the tail pipe. Is this correct? If so, my question is - How long should the extension be? I tried the Search Function without success. Any help will be appreciated. Barry Quote

Dave72dt Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 Since you have an 8" longer wheelbase, it's probably safe to assume you'll need an 8" extension between the muffler and tailpipe to place the tailpipe correctly over the rear axle. You can get extensions in an ID-OD setup that will allow the extension to fit on the muffler like the tailpipe would and the tailpipe will slide over the extension the same way it would have gone over the muffler. The other question that comes up is the difference in bed length that may not place the exit of the tailpipe in the correct location so there may be a need for an additional extension after the axle bends and before the exit bend.
