62rebelP23 Posted June 9, 2007 Report Posted June 9, 2007 Robin; more questions! since you're in the UK, and shoebox fords are probably NOT very common over ther, to what end do your friends intend to put this Ford? i only ask BECAUSE the body style is the same from 1949 thru 1951, but the '49 is well known as being poorly built due to rushed lead time. the '50 is better but the '51 is the best of the series. i had a '51 coupe a while back and was able to compare it with both 49 and 50 models. Ford was really playing "catch-up" trying to remedy dozens of faults in the 49 body. if they want to build a custom or hotrod, i strongly encourage using a '51. changing a '51 to LOOK like a 49 or 50 is simple; all the trim comes off easily enough and interchanges readily. trunk hinges and gas caps went inside for 51; door handles were unique in 49. dashboards interchange easily. plenty of sidevalve performance parts available; lots of swap-out also. if it's an original car, restored, that they want, then good luck! most shoeboxes have been snapped up by collectors or hotrodders by now. Robin; You are a week late in making your posting. Last Saturday I went to an all Ford early V-8 national meet. There were several cars there with for sale signs in the years your friend is looking for. Unfortunately this pristine woody 2 door was not one of the for sale cars. Quote
