54Illinois Posted April 18, 2014 Report Posted April 18, 2014 (edited) We bought this S15-1 a while back and dropped the pan and tappet cover...First thing I noticed is that 3 pistion rods were replaced as they were numbered out of order. Then I could tell the pistons were also changed. There was a little bit of slime in the pan as well. Next I noticed the springs, tappets and block...spotless! We were also able to hear the engine run befeore it was pulled. Edited April 18, 2014 by 54Illinois Quote
Lumpy Posted April 18, 2014 Report Posted April 18, 2014 Good score, looks like a low mileage rebuild. Have you taken the head off and checked for a ridge? ken. Quote
54Illinois Posted April 18, 2014 Author Report Posted April 18, 2014 No, not going to remove the head. It was running when removed, going to disturb as little as possible! Quote
Lumpy Posted April 18, 2014 Report Posted April 18, 2014 Probably a good thing to live by....although...when it comes to flatheads, doesn't really disturb much to pull the head. From the looks of everything else I'd agree that there's no reason to. k. Quote
RobertKB Posted April 18, 2014 Report Posted April 18, 2014 Sounds like a winner! Always good to have spare engines. Quote
54Illinois Posted April 18, 2014 Author Report Posted April 18, 2014 Sounds like a winner! Always good to have spare engines. Not a spare, going in the 52 Desoto that had a spun bearing. Quote
RobertKB Posted April 19, 2014 Report Posted April 19, 2014 Good luck with the project and keep us posted. Pictures would be great, too. Quote
