Guest ColoradoChuck Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 Hey guys, I work at a guitar shop and we just got a line on some really nice embossed western motif amp tolex (brown) that I'm thinking of using on my doors- The cardboard panels were long gone when I got my 1950 Dodge B2-B.. Any ideas short of Roberts repro's for getting patterns to make some more substantial and custom panels? Thanks, Chuck:confused: Quote
bach4660 Posted May 30, 2007 Report Posted May 30, 2007 I got the western amp motif, but what is Tolex? Quote
Rodger S-11 Posted May 30, 2007 Report Posted May 30, 2007 Chuck From Fillmore turn North on Stone ( at the McDonalds/ Arby's ) location to "Timberline Up-Holstry". It is across from the Sears Store on the same street. Let the people there know of your wanted plans. I have been going there for some ten years due to their quailty of work and the price of the service. They have done seats/ interior from an 63 Le Baron, a 78 OEM bucket seated Dodge Truck and etc for me. Rodger & Gabby COS Quote
Guest ColoradoChuck Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Thanks guys! Tolex is a synthetic covering used on guitar amplifiers- The western one looks like brown leather- It's extremely durable and cleans up easy- I wouldn't recommend it for seat material but door panels would be cool- C Here's some sample pics- (I hope) of the alligator and the western motif- Quote
bach4660 Posted June 1, 2007 Report Posted June 1, 2007 thanks for the pics I agree it would look good. Quote
MBF Posted June 1, 2007 Report Posted June 1, 2007 What I did was to use a 1/4" piece of luan as the backing. I traced the old cardboard patterns, and glued on some black leatherette. My first attempt at upholstery! Didn't come out too bad. I initially tried using 1/4" foam like what is used on posters-the adhesive ate it and it didn't look too well. Mike Quote
