rustrunner Posted September 14, 2013 Report Posted September 14, 2013 I guess the best statement is to say that it is not going as fast as I was hoping, but it is progressing. There is rust between the gusset plate and the frame, so we decides to remove the gusset plates, sandblast, primer, and reinstall. That should be completed next week, and then rebuild brakes as required - have not had the drums off yet. All the actuators are working, with new diaphragm's except for the air assist master for the truck brakes. That is this week repair job. Need a couple of small items, like a cap for one of the governors, etc. The 2 speed axel actuator was sealed, and not made to be repaired, but we cut apart, repaired, and drilled to bolt back together, just hope I have the correct strength spring, but now can always take back apart, and replace spring. Finishing will be a great winter project. - Thanks for all the help. Dan Quote

rustrunner Posted September 17, 2013 Author Report Posted September 17, 2013 Got into the Master cylinder today, and as I thought, left the worst to last. Full of crud, and the actual master cylinder is toast, and broke a bolt that I now have to drill out. Does anybody know if there is a newer unit manufactured that will replace the Wagner Lockheed FE786 hyd master cyl? Quote
41/53dodges Posted September 18, 2013 Report Posted September 18, 2013 (edited) May not be toast just yet! Try a product called evapo-rust. Believe it or not the stuff actually works very well, just srape off the heavy crap and leave it to soak, comes out like new metal and has no acids in it. Plus wont harm paint and rubber, you can get it at autozone or harbor freight for sure. http://www.harborfreight.com/1-gallon-evapo-rust-rust-remover-96431.html Edited September 18, 2013 by 41/53dodges Quote
