Last year I had George Asche rebuild my overdrive transmission. Since then I had developed a problem with the synchros when shifting into second and third. This past Saturday I made the 300 mile drive to George's to bring him the transmission. I expected to drop it off then pick it up at the Chryslers at Carlisle show later in the month as I did last year with the rebuild. Carlisle is much closer. To my surprise, George fixed the transmission while I waited. It was a treat to watch him work. He replaced both stop rings, the synchronizer, and the input shaft. Those parts were noticeably warn. George had no explanation as to why and said of the 100 or so transmissions he has worked on, he has never seen that happen before. It was a long drive but well worth it and I look forward to getting the overdrive back in the car. Unfortunately, as has been noted before on this forum and as George himself told me, he is not doing too well. There was a distinct difference from the talkative and energetic man I saw last year and the person I dealt with on Saturday.

Glad you got to spend some time with him. If there is a Mopar Hall of Fame George Asche should be the number 1 inductee.

Gotta agree with this!!
