My 1949 DeSoto had one.  The 1950 DeSoto used a similar set up with a plastic circle with a bust of Hernando on each side of the ornament that lit up.  Pretty cool, but not as good as the 1951 and early 1952 DeSotos with the head of DeSoto that lit up.  Nothing like having an explorer lead the way.

Although not a hood ornament, the British Wolseley had the name on the grille light up.  They were used by the London police, as well as other police forces, for years.    CDI Foyle gets chauffeured around in a Wolseley in Foyles War.
