kitesurfjohn Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 Anyone know if the serial number on a Fargo is in the same place as a Dodge, I have looked very closely at the l/h front chassis rail and cant find it! Its a 51 and sent to Australia. Thanks for the help. Quote
1952B3b23 Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 Im not sure if its in the same location as on the Dodges, but i know that on my '52 Dodge only a couple of the numbers are barely visible anymore. The truck should have an ID tag inside the cab somewhere but then again mine didnt have that either cause someone had ripped it out. -Chris Quote
kitesurfjohn Posted April 10, 2013 Author Report Posted April 10, 2013 Thanks Chris, Yes it has got the id tag still which is lucky. Here in Oz they authorities still like to see a number stamped on the chassis though. I might re-stamp it myself, I'm certain no one at the transport dept will know what it should look like from the factory. Quote
1952B3b23 Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 Id say re stamp it yourself and i doubt they would know the difference. Good Luck -Chris Quote
Desotodav Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 Hi John and welcome to the forum. I'll reply to your PM shortly. I registered my blue truck 'Ernie' without a number stamped on the chassis. I found the QT people quite easy to deal with. My tags for Ernie were on the firewall, although I have seen trucks here in Oz with tags on the passenger side 'A' pillar. Not all of our trucks here had the VIN stamped on the chassis - I have only seen it stamped on 1 of the 7 trucks that I had up until recently. I have been chatting with Stuart (a member here - 'lloydiie') and he registered his truck in NSW recently. His Engineer wanted him to stamp the VIN # on the chassis. I was up at Caboolture (half way to your place) a couple of weeks ago for a car show. Will talk soon. Quote
kitesurfjohn Posted April 11, 2013 Author Report Posted April 11, 2013 Luckily I still have the tag on the firewall. The more I have cleaned the side of the chassis rail the more I am convinced there isn't a number. I spoke to the roadworthy garage today who said it seems fairly common in vehicles of that age not to have a number stamped onto the chassis and so long as the id tag is readable they are happy with that.
