mikeinkc Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 i have a 49 dodge B1C. truck is in pretty good shape overall. i am wondering if this truck in good running order condition will pull with little effort, a 20' dual axle car hauler with a 4000# vehicle on it? i know brakes are a main concern, but i plan to do the aaj front disc conversion before actually pulling anything. being a 3/4 ton, with a granny low 4 spped set-up and what i believe to be 4.10:1 axle ratio, the math says it would be a piece of cake! any members actually use their truck "as" a truck around here? thanks, mike in k.c. PatS.... Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 I would think with the brakes done, it would but not very fast. They did those kind of jobs in their day even with the original brakes. I would do it but then again I'm...well we won't go there... Quote
Jim Roach Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 Mike, Before you buy your disc brake conversion kit from AAJ, check with Charlie Achers @ Rusty Hope. He has a kit that is inexpensive and easy to install. I just finished a bench trial fitting and it worked out just fine. As soon as I get around to it I'll post some pictures for everyone. Good luck, Jim Roach Quote
Reg Evans Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 On level ground I would say yes,but slowly. On long uphill grades I'd say not very doable. I think you'd be working the 218 too much. I did tow a 41 Dodge pickup on a tow dolly once for about 100 miles with a 2000' elevation increase with my 48 3/4 ton. It had a transplanted 251 Chrysler 6 in it though. Even with the larger engine and minus the weight of the trailer my truck was working pretty hard. Just my 2 cents. Quote
