Several of us have mentioned we have trouble with the forum cutting us off and various other problems posting to the forum. I think I may have just found the answer.

I have tried using the Firefox browser (as normal) to come onto the forum for the last 10 to 20 minutes. It will not load the forum, or any other site during this time. It keeps telling me that the page cannot be found. Yet when I switched over to MS Exployer it loaded right away and I'm using it now. Firefox still will not load any pages from anywhere. That leads me to believe something is wrong with the Firefox hosting site itself. If it keeps going up and down during visiting this site, you would be cut off when switching from one thread to another because you are starting all over again. So, it may not be a problem with the forum software, but with Firefox.

A good way to tell is to keep an eye on the two little computers. If they are not flashing when you try to switch around, the program you're using isn't working.

Norm,

I only use Firefox for my browser and I'm not experiencing any problems. I'm running XP professional with service pack 2 and all the updates.

I'd be surprised if its browser specific.

What you might have is a scrambled file with Firefox or Windoz may have registry problems. The windows registry tends to grow and grow and grow. Over time it can make the computer act strange and also slow it down considerably.

I was finally able to get back onto the forum with Firefox. On it now. However, had to disconnect and restart the computer to get it to work again. Firefox seems to give me a lot of problems every now and then. Using Thunderbird email program with it and not too happy with the way that's set up either.

Using Firefox and occasionally get a can not find, try again, usually works second try. Not just the forum, lots of different stuff. I believe it times out when loading the first try. I think mine is more of a server problem than a browser problem, but then, I don't know much.

Your comments jogged my memory about my first few months of using Firefox. I also had connection problems from time to time but if I hit retry it would eventually connect.

I'm not sure what cured it but that problem has been gone for a long time.

I also use Thunderbird and while its not the best email program around as far as I'm concerned its got Oulook beat all to heck :D

Well, I'm no computer expert either. I was just guessing based on my experience with Firefox since about last December. Was using Netscape prior to that and that was going down the tubes too.

As for servers causing the problem, that could also be part of the problem. I really think the Internet is headed in the direction the airwaves went back in the late 70's/early 80's with the CB radios. They were nice when they first came out. However, in the late 70's/early 80's the airwaves became too crowded with more and more people using them. I think the same thing is happening with the Internet now. As more and more people log onto it, it slows everything down and the traffic overloads the various servers.

I guess my Dell computer uses Windows Internet Explorer to bring up such things as the forum. Usually works well and quickly. But I have hi speed now. Was not so fast before. But it will not cut me off when all is working correctly. I also have Crazy Browser, which gives a second browser so you can have multiple things running at once, such as the forum and the PhotoBucket album to get pictures to here. I'm no expert either.

Bob;

Why do you need two browsers to have multiple things running at once? I can have several web pages open at the same time using only one browser.

Bob,

Don is right. You can have a lot of different pages open at once just using one browser. I've had at least 10 or more at a time sometimes, all going at the same time in the same browser. The only time I go to a different browser is when one isn't working for some reason.

I dunno......I can have e-mail plus one thing open together, but if I try to have two places, like the forum and photobucket open, the second knocks off the first. Even if I minimize the first thing, the second still boots it. Told ya I'm no expert......don't know how you get around that happening. That's why I use Crazy Browser....got that info from greg g sometime back. It's free....works fine.

Hmmmm......you know, lots of things say to use the ctrl+something, and I never bother to use it....do whatever it is some other method. Maybe I should learn how to use those keys.

Bob;

Try this. At the top of this message right click on any link. Try USER CP. When you right click there will be an option "open in a new window". Do so then go to your favorites and select one of them. It will open in this new window. You will now have two windows open at the same time. You can repete this process and have many windows open at the same time. If you go to favorites and open one in the window you have open it will over write the window you have open.
