p24-1953 Posted January 14, 2013 Report Posted January 14, 2013 Since the Rewire and Rebuild i have a static issue on the 6v radio when it is running. I am using the same style 6v positive ground alternator, and the same radio. Prior to the rewire i did not have a capacitor on the alternator or coil to help with static. could my issue be coming from the new coil, new wiring harness, or possibly the sparkplug wires. Just trying to figure out where to start chasing the problem down at. thanks for any help Quote
Tom Skinner Posted January 14, 2013 Report Posted January 14, 2013 (edited) Could be a bad ground. Put Star Washers on everything. Check all ground straps for good tight paint free connections. Condenser on the Generator might help, however a grounding strap should clear it up. A good ground at the radio as well. I run old wire type with champion rj12c (592) plugs with no condenser at generator or issues Edited January 15, 2013 by Tom Skinner more Quote
Niel Hoback Posted January 15, 2013 Report Posted January 15, 2013 You should be able to tell where the static originates by its noise. A popping that changes with engine rpm would likely be ignition related. Loose or leaking plug wires would do that. a steady high-pitched whine would more likely be from an alternator or generator. p24-1953 Posted January 15, 2013 Author Report Posted January 15, 2013 its a popping not a whine so that helps pin point where to start. Quote
