40P10touring sedan Posted November 22, 2012 Report Posted November 22, 2012 I haven't let this out to too many, but I recently aquired a 39 plymouth dash to mod for my 40 plymouth...this way I don't mess with the oem one{the 40's that is}....I knew it'd be alittle off in size...and oh yeah - it is, but the one thing that got me was the shot glovebox door latch on it - had a broken catch arm. A search of ebay and I found a new 59 dodge/plymouth glove box latch that looked very close...the owner/seller shot 2 extra pics for me and I bought it and what do ya know, it fits fine! I'd pay $20 for that...oh yeah, I did! So add this to your interchange notes- a 59 ply glovebox latch works for a 39 ply. Quote

ptwothree Posted November 22, 2012 Report Posted November 22, 2012 Will a '39 latch work on a '51? Then I'll be on the lookout for a '59:) Quote
40P10touring sedan Posted November 23, 2012 Author Report Posted November 23, 2012 Will a '39 latch work on a '51? Then I'll be on the lookout for a '59:) I had the dash come with what was left of the oem glovebox latch, just was missing the end of the catch arm, so I had a minor reference to size...the retainer assy is the same outer sleave as my 40's glove box latch- one screw holds the backer sleave on. Toss us a pic of your glovebox latch or glove box lid and the catch if you don't have anything of a latch on here and I can snap some pics for you to see if it'll work. An odd side note for usablility here...my 40 ply has the push button lock "in" the glovebox door with the catch on the dash - the 39 ply has the catch on the glovebox door and the push button "on" the dash...however, they may be reversed but they work in the same fashion...interesting how/why they swapped it..
