billymopar Posted June 6, 2012 Report Posted June 6, 2012 Seems like my oil filter housing is leaking from the bottom. IT is the type that takes a replacement element. Possibly someone overtorqued the bolt on top of the lid and pulled the bottom of the housing up, and it cracked. Any idea where i might turn to get a replacement? Were these canisters/housings specific for mopar? I could switch it out for a sealed can throwaway type but this would require different bracket ( i think) and new plumbing. Any suggestions appreciated, thanks! Quote
Jerry Roberts Posted June 6, 2012 Report Posted June 6, 2012 The sealed can throw aways are rare and expensive , so don't go that route . Can your existing canister be welded as a repair ? Lots of after market versions were used on these trucks. If you can find a junkyard with older vehicles , they would have some . Ebay has them but they are usually asking too much money . Another option would be a forum member who has a spare . Quote
billymopar Posted June 6, 2012 Author Report Posted June 6, 2012 thanks for the input Jerry, I'd like to hear from anyone who might have a spare oil filter canister for my 48 Desoto, I'm going to try to weld the old one but I sure would feel more comfortable with a solid replacement. Many thanks Quote
Rusty O'Toole Posted June 6, 2012 Report Posted June 6, 2012 Have you taken it off and inspected it? Could be just a leaky fitting. There are plenty of those filters around, I have a few in the garage. A picture would help identify the exact model. Quote
Don Coatney Posted June 6, 2012 Report Posted June 6, 2012 Do you have a full flow filter or a by-pass filter? Quote
