What do you need to now? get the numbers on the nose of it, last 3 should be 749, 752 or something along that line. get me those and i can give you more info. 65rbdodge Posted May 24, 2012 Report Share Posted May 24, 2012 it could be anything if someone had swapped it in the past, it will either be a 741, 742 or 489 case(there are others but these 3 are the most common) they are all plenty strong, people say the 741 is the weakest, followed by the 489 and the strongest the 742. chrysler used 2 different sure grip (posi)units. the clutch type is rebuildable and the cone type is not. you can tell a cone type, it will have springs visable. be sure it spins freely and there is no up/down movement in the pinion.
