marfulle Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 I had a thread a few days ago on this. I found some brass nuts for the intake and exhaust. They don't have the little cuts in them like the original but they are brass (someone said I need brass). All I need now is the washers. Any ideas. Can I use regular flat thin washers or do I need to find the fat ones. I am ready to install my motor and this us basically the only thing holding me up. Thanks Eric Quote
Don Coatney Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 I believe your answer is in the original thread. Quote
Normspeed Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 Eric, the ideal setup is the split and tapered nuts with the thick washers which have a tapered hole. My opinion, FWIW, if this was the only holdup on the project I'd use automotive (grade 5 or 8) nuts and the thickest washers I could find, also in a high grade. I would even think about doubling up on the washers. Later, when you find the correct nuts and washers, you can replace them one at a time without damaging the manifolds. The purpose of the special nuts and washers is to avoid having them loosen up over time. Also, these manifolds don't need a lot of torque to snug them up. Better to snug them up and re snug them after some driving time. Here's a link about grade 5 and 8 fittings: http://www.rockcrawler.com/techreports/fasteners/index.asp Quote
