It seems that CSK Auto Inc and Advance Auto are seperate companies that both use Parts America as their parts sources. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 I priced the set of front and rear shocks for the P15 at both O'Reilly Auto Parts and NAPA. NAPA was a few bucks cheaper, which surprised me. Then, when I went to actually pick up the shocks they ordered, the counter man charged even a bit less than first quoted. So, that was a good thing this time. I usually shop at O'Reilly as they have some older books and are willing to look stuff up. Quote
james curl Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Norm, my gasket set also used the gasket with the protrusion on the front of the block with the hole in it which is for the internal bypass engines. After placing it on top of my block determined that I could use it and did. I have had no problems with it in 3000 miles. I have a friend who has a 51 Plymouth business coupe and has an original Fenton alum. head which he wants to use on his engine. He will have to buy an external bypass thermostat housing and plug the hole in the block to use the old style head. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Norm, my gasket set also used the gasket with the protrusion on the front of the block with the hole in it which is for the internal bypass engines. James, I have heard several people mention they used that gasket on their engines without any apparent problems to date. The engine in my 48 is a 47 engine and uses the external bypass so that hole is not there. Like you said, the one with the extra hole will fit. However, if you compare the two gaskets (one with the hole and one without) there is also a slight difference in the cross sections between the valves and pistons. So, it's not an exact fit. At any rate, I see no reason to use the incorrect gasket when the right one is readily available from Gasket City and other sources. When you order one from Gasket City, he will ask you which engine you have to make sure it's the right one. His prices are not any higher than those at NAPA either. Think I paid $25 or $30 for it (including shipping). Received it in just two or three days and was packed between two pieces of wood so it didn't get bent. Quote
