p15estep Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 I recently found a 1948 Chrysler 4dr. It's been sitting out in the bushes for the last 30+ years. It's intact for the most part, some of the windows are knocked out and the weather has gotten in but it's all there. Now what i need is some good advice on how much it is worth as these don't seem to be in as big a demand as the 48 Dodge or Plymouth. Quote
PatS.... Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 Well, about 4 yrs ago I paid $1500can for a '49 Chrysler Royal Coupe that sat for 30+ yrs as well. Interior shot, motor shot but body relatively rust-free. So, I'd say under $1500. Way under. But you have to decide what's right for you. Quote
48mirage Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 Try this first: http://www.manheimgold.com/ Since these only go down to "fair" condition. I would have to say the condition you describe is "poor" So I wouldn't pay anymore than half of the "fair" price. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 That car sounds like it's a number one car in the "Old Cars Price Guide". A number one car is considered to be a car that needs total restoration, not running, and may or not be all there. The car is useful as a parts car or "total restoration". I didn't look it up, but this type of car usually is priced at between $500 and $800 in the Guide. Of course, the book is just a guide and half the cars sell for more and half for less than those prices. The prices are based on reported auction prices. In the real world those prices do not always hold true. So........as long as you feel the price is right for what you are looking for, then: "Go For it." Quote
p15estep Posted April 17, 2007 Author Report Posted April 17, 2007 thanks for the help, i will check out the price guide. what i was wandering is if the parts off the 48 dodge or plymouth are interchangable with the 48 chrysler Quote
Jim Saraceno Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Probably some but not many. Body panels maybe, trim not likely, drivetrain some. A closer match would be a Desoto which it shares an engine with. Quote
p15estep Posted April 18, 2007 Author Report Posted April 18, 2007 well i went ahead and got the 48 chrysler and the guy had two desotos a 53 and 57, i got them too. the same deal, been there for the last 25-30 yrs in the brush. i hope to restore the chrysler but will probably just part out the two desotos. Norm's Coupe Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 That 57 DeSoto could really be a neat car if it was fixed up. Think I would hold onto it. Quote
