P7rancher Posted November 8, 2011 Report Posted November 8, 2011 Just bought a 1948 Pilot House stake bed grain truck and need to get it trailered home. Anyone know what the empty weight of this truck might be? It does have the metal grain sides. Just need a ballpark to see if my trailer will work. Thanks:) Steve Quote
mechresto Posted November 8, 2011 Report Posted November 8, 2011 Go here for vehicle weights with and without options, should be enough to get your info. http://www.dodgepilothouseclub.org/know/salesmans_models/imgcol/index.htm Bryan Quote
P7rancher Posted November 8, 2011 Author Report Posted November 8, 2011 Thanks Bryan Lots of options to consider. The truck title shows empty weight of 5555lbs., with 300 Bushel of wheat @ 60lbs/bushel= 18000 lbs. gets us to a gross of around 24,000 lbs. Does that sound about right?? The charts showed quite a range of weights. BTW, this is a one owner, all original and runs good. Can't wait to get her home! Thanks again, Steve Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 What model and wheel base of truck. It's all on the data plate on the drivers side door opening at the hinges-like B1JA-170. Post it and I can tell ya! Bob Quote
KJ's Dodge Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Steve, The model and wheel base really matters in terms of weight. My grain truck empty and on the scales topped 11,000 lbs but my truck is classified as a heavy, so it is just that. What part of the country are you from? KJ Quote
mechresto Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 Steve It all hinges upon the magic numbers contained on your data plate. my one b series is a gravel truck, 27000 lbs of gravel in the back is a good load. my other B flatbed will handle 4 cords of green red oak @ 4000# per cord and it's a 1.5 ton. I guess what I'm saying is this : what they'll carry is not whats listed so you can't go by that to figure a gross weight. you need to use your data plate. My flatbed was also a one owner, a fire dept in southern minnesota, 4000 miles on it, original tires and runs like a top Bryan Quote
