joenailer Posted October 6, 2011 Report Posted October 6, 2011 Hey, threw a battery in an old b1c that I got and tried to crank it. Found and fixed a few issues with the distributor and plug wires but still no fire. Found out the switch has a flat/dead spot. Wired around it and got power to the coil but no fire. After scratching my head for a while, I pulled out the wiring diagram and noticed that these trucks had a positive ground? I set the battery back in the way it came out and had hooked it up negative ground. Think I killed the coil? Quote
randroid Posted October 6, 2011 Report Posted October 6, 2011 Joe, Welcome to the forum. Where is you at? Reversing polarity to the coil will generally not kill it but will make any spark very weak and essentially ineffective because the coil is a simple inductive transformer. So far as negative ground going in the trucks and not the cars is something to which I cannot attest but I would doubt it seriously. Chrysler and the US Navy both figured that since ions are what provide EMF (Electro Motive Force) and they carry a negative charge then what everybody else called positive is, in actuality, the negative side. I can go on but it's a topic too often debated so let it suffice to say I doubt they'd embrace one school of physics with one model and a different school with the others. Some of the folks here own both and I'm sure they'll chime in because that's one of the things that makes this forum interesting and informative. Enjoy! -Randy Quote
oldmopar Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 If you have good spark from the coil did you check the points and condenser. Try filing and resetting the points and cleaning and setting the plugs. Other suggestion is be sure you are not using the old gas Quote
