55 Fargo Posted October 3, 2011 Report Posted October 3, 2011 Hey all, here is an engine number I came across today. It is in a 55 Dodge truck, is a 25 inch engine made in Canada has internal water pump by pass. Here is the number, P6D1 21777 C Very odd number, one I have not seen before, any ideas what it may be???? Quote
55 Fargo Posted October 5, 2011 Author Report Posted October 5, 2011 No I don't really think so, but who knows, it is an odd numer I have never seen before... Quote
55 Fargo Posted October 5, 2011 Author Report Posted October 5, 2011 And the mystery goes on, I thought for sure Rusty Otoole might know this engine ID. I think perhaps only Bill Watson, may have the answer.....Fred Quote
oldmopar Posted October 5, 2011 Report Posted October 5, 2011 P6 would be a 1938 Plymouth but not sure about the D1 plenty of engine # reference at the link below. Does the engine have a casting date it should be down by the starter. http://t137.com/registry/help/otherengines/otherengines.php Quote
Rusty O'Toole Posted October 6, 2011 Report Posted October 6, 2011 P6D1 "does not compute". P6 = 38 Plymouth, D1 = 39 Dodge but both together??? Looks like factory stamping too. There must be some logical explanation but I don't know what it could be. Sorry. Quote
55 Fargo Posted October 6, 2011 Author Report Posted October 6, 2011 Definately not a Plym or Dodge passenger care engine. 1955 Dodge Truck C series 1 ton 120 hp Modern engine, see internal by pass waterpump, t/stat housing, and pressurized cooling system. Quote
oldmopar Posted October 6, 2011 Report Posted October 6, 2011 Maybe a replacement engine. The engine in my 48 Pilot-House has no numbers on the engine # pad and a casting date in the early 60's. Mine had no other tags but sometimes you can find a rebuilders tag on the engine Quote

P - 1960 Model Year 6 - 6-cylinder D1 - Dodge/Fargo Truck D100 21777 - 20,777th engine built C - Canada Dodge and Fargo Trucks still used the flathead six in 1960. The slant six did not appear in a half ton truck until the 1961 models. It is a 250.6-cid engine. Quote
55 Fargo Posted October 9, 2011 Author Report Posted October 9, 2011 Thanx Bill, had the feeling you would know..... Quote
