Boydoggie Posted September 19, 2011 Report Posted September 19, 2011 I'm working on rebuilding my front end on my 53 B4B. It was quite a mess. Somebody had straightened out the drag link and welded angle iron to it. So I don't trust whats there. I think it has the wrong tie rod in it. The solid tie rod with out the two ends measures 47and 1/4 inchs. Is this correct for a 1/2 ton? I put in all new parts but it's not right. Can you guys tell me the right length? thanks Quote
Merle Coggins Posted September 19, 2011 Report Posted September 19, 2011 I don't have a measurement for you on the drag link, but it should have a bend in it. If it was straightened it is most probably too long. The steering should still work OK, but it may hit something at full stroke. Or, I suppose it's possible that the steering gear will bottom out before getting to full turn in one direction if the link is too long. Merle Quote
Boydoggie Posted September 19, 2011 Author Report Posted September 19, 2011 I replaced the drag link with a new one. You are right, the straight link rubbed on the leaf spring. Quote
