jimwheeldon Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 I need to replace the gasket between the automatic choke assembly and the exaust manifold...it didn't come with one in my gasket kit. Is there anything special about it? Or can I cut one out of standard gasket material? Help! I coudn't tell if the original was asbestos or any other unobtanium material. Thanks- Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 My guess would be you would need heat resistant material to make a gasket for that. Should be able to find it in the auto parts store. Quote
Normspeed Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 I'd pick up some heat proof material at the parts store. Manifold gets pretty hot. I think some folks run no gasket. Quote

DutchEdwin Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 you can try new gasket materials like silicon based Loctite material. http://www.loctite.com/int_henkel/loctite_us/index.cfm?&pageid=114&layout=3 Just give loctite a mail, who knows they can help you out. The 5920 seals go up to 350C (660F). Do not know if this will cover the temp at the exhaust. Quote
Normspeed Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 I recently tried Permatex red heat proof gasket sealer on my exhaust downpipe gaskets which have a tendency to blow out. So far they sealed great and the red silicone shows no signs of scorching. Good stuff if a bit messy. But I really don't think that gasket on the choke is critical. http://www.permatex.com/products/automotive/automotive_gasketing/gasket_makers/auto_Permatex_High-Temp_Red_RTV_Silicone_Gasket.htm Quote
41D19conv Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 I recently bought one for $6 from Andy Bernbaum 800-457-1250 Quote
