Plug is a new one on me first time I have seen one on a old chrysler product

I would use the drain plug but befroe I pulled it I would drive it a while and get the fluid warm then pull the plug. Then fill with 90 wt lube - if you can find any- if not 85-140 is what I use- and I would not re drain if I had drained it warm or hot

They have some additives for rear ends now that help with howling rear ends. My T Bird has this problem and when I had the rear end oil changed out I got a bottle of this stuff and had my mechanic pour it in with the regular 90 weight oil. And now the old T bird seems to be allot quieter but still some day I will haft to have the pions bearings replaced and probably a little shimming will be in need to be done also to get all those gears aligned right back to factory specs.

When I drain a rear or stick trans, I try to wait unil I know the vehicle won't be driven for a few days, then pull the plug and let'r drip. It will empty, even on a cold day, given enough time. AND this is a great opportunity to pull and clean out that axle vent. If they plug up, you WILL have a seal leaking somewhere, real soon. Anybody epoxy a small magnet to their drain plug? Works quie well too, and gives an early indication if the unthinkable ever begins to happen. JMHO:D

In my days as a fleet maintenance guy, all our trucks came wih 85/140 lube in the rears. They all leaked. We finally swithced to a straight weight 140, and they all stayed dry - unless an axle vent plugged.:)

I bought a spare 3" extension for my 3/8" drive set and ground it down till it fitted nice and snug. Made taking the plug out a piece of cake.
