Rodney Bullock Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 I have noticed that my fan/generator belt is sheding its rubber skin. In an effort to fix it before it becomes broke I need to get a replacement belt. Does anyone have a advance auto, autozone or NAPA number that I can use. If you have a Gates number that would be even better as I bought a gates belt tonite it's to short. the gates number is 7490. Any help would be you kniow:) Quote
old rat 49 Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 Just bought a NAPA belt this weekend #NBH25-7490 @ $12.60. Will install tomorrow if it's not raining and will let you know if it fits. Quote

JerseyHarold Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 If the belt is not broken yet, you can remove it and take it to the store with you. Most good auto parts places have a belt-measuring guage that will show what size you need. I used to work at Pep Boys and I know for sure we had them. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted November 3, 2010 Author Report Posted November 3, 2010 Jersey harold, Great advice. I ordered a belt over the phone this morning and went in to get it about an hour ago. I ask if they had a fan belt gauge and the guy looked at me one sided. the old guy came up and said yes we haVE one do you have the old belt. I gave it to him and he told me the belt I ordered was shorter the the belt I got. Well, If a 49 inch belt is to short what do I need. How about a 50 1/2 inch. That should do the trick and sure nuff it did, I just put it on and it's almost a taylor fit. So now for my information under gates belts in the note book I need a gates 7500 I will never forget that,if push comes to shove I can just order a belt that is 50 1/2 inches long. 1940 Plymouth 217 with generator and no power steering.
