louie the fly Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 OK you blokes, I need some answers. Can someone tell me what the difference is between a Canadian and non Canadian 230? I see on NAPA Online they list several gasket sets (Felpro) as either Canadian or Excl. Canadian. My engine is a 23" 230ci, engine # P25-235257 in a 54 Dodge D49-2. It has no "bump" on the head. My other car appears to be a 54 model D49-3 Custom Crusaderand has a 25" 250ci with a KEW-2P-14***** engine number. I can't read the last few digits. What parts are common to both engines? I'm thinking the water pumps look the same, & maybe the bellhousings are interchangeable. These Australian Dodge cars are so damn hard to ID at times... And I'm so over the rain - 900mm so far this year! Quote
Andydodge Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 Louie......anything on the mopar 6 that would be affected by a length measurement will determine that part being specfic to that length engine, ie a 23" engine block, head, crank, cam, intake & exhaust manifold are the same in the 201,217 & 230..........and the same parts from the 25" engine ie, the 218, 228 and 250 are the same..........parts that aren't "length" affected include the water pump, oil pump, fuel pump, distributor, carby, thermostat, oil filter, engine and gearbox/rear mounts. The "Kew" means its been sourced thru Kew England from Canada and you are best not to quote that to a US parts supplier as they will have NO idea what you are talking about........keep to 23/25" or the actual BORE/Stroke and people(yanks) won't get confused...........the Canadians apparently used the 25" engine from about the late 30's.......so they didn't have the 230.........the 228 IS NOT THE SAME!!!!......its a 25" engine, likewise a 217 and a 218 ARE NOT THE SAME........the 217 is 23" long and the 218 is 25" long........you will nee two different gasket sets..........the 230 is a US based 23" engine.........the "Kew" is a 25" Canadian 25" long engine.........bumps and engine numbers are immaterial, in your case, of not effect...........andyd........btw have you got an Oz workshop manual?..........if you check the engine specs it shows the differences................andyd Quote
louie the fly Posted September 13, 2010 Author Report Posted September 13, 2010 btw have you got an Oz workshop manual?..........if you check the engine specs it shows the differences................andyd G'day Andy. Didn't know you replied until just now. Yes, I have an Australian 46-53 workshop manual. It lists the following engines; 46-52 218.06ci, 53 228.12ci. But then my 54-56 Owner's Manual lists P25-1 & 2, SP25-1 & 2, & D49-1 & 2 having 230.2 ci & all models with 3 sp + overdrive, and autos as having 250.6ci. So in 54 - 56 they had both 23" & 25" engines. After that, Royals had only 25" engines. Talk about confusing a bloke hey? Quote
Andydodge Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Yep, it is confusing.........lol.........I really didn't take much notice of the differences between the 23 & 25 inch engines until I got my 41 Plymouth as I have had a 318 poly in the Dodge since 73.......I was restoring the Dodge but got shafted by the moron that rebuilt the original engine so V8 here I went........anyway my comments about the "kew" name & dealing with the Yanks is relevant as they only know what was US based........lol.....the Canucks are Nth of the border and we are way south of Mexico.........lol...........andyd Quote
