Yesterday I woke my '50 from a long winter's nap...

The car has been parked in my dad's condo garage for about 5 months, out of sight out of mind. I've only driven it once since Speed Week last August.

It was 19 degrees outside, and I wondered as I drove over to the garage if it would have a dead battery or flat tires. I pulled the car cover off, and all looked fine. I turned the key, and after a bit of pedal pumping and 6 or 8 revolutions, it fired right up and ran like a champ once the fuel pump got fuel to the carbs.

I let it run for a bit, and then drove the car about a mile back to my house. I video taped the engine running from under the hood and from inside the car. The mic on the camera amplifies the engine noises really well, and the knock sound is still there :(. You can really hear it from inside the car, much more so than from under the hood. Probably because of all the other sounds in there, like the valves, etc.

As soon as I have some time, I'm going to make a couple of clips and put them up on the net for you all to hear. Listening to the noise was disheartening to say the least, not looking forward to the fix, what ever it may be. Tulsa is looking less likely at this point, at least in the '50.

If I have time this afternoon, I'm going to pull the pan and have a look inside.

Stay tuned...

Pete, did you have a look at this article from the booklet "All in a Dats Work" from Mopar?

The whole book is on the Imperial Club site. Some odd sources for noises we may not think of.

Hopefully my Chrysler will see the light of day under its own steam this spring as well.
