My grandpa at his farm has lots of engines siting in a field one of them has caught my eye it is a 265 out of a 53 chrysler, I would like to know if there is more parts for one than a 230/218 and how much more horsepower is gained and if anyone has swaped one in to 49 Dodge B1B

The 53 Chrysler 265 was rated at 119 HP and the 49 Truck 218 was rated at 95 HP.

I installed a 251 in my 52 1/2 ton which is also the 2" longer engine like the 265. Fairly simple job.

Is there enough clearance for the radiator or would that have to be moved closer to the grill

This is the third truck I have installed a 251 in. The first 2 I had to mount the radiator forward of where it was originally. The last one,my 52 1/2 ton, I had to actually move the radiator toward the engine. It's been about 12 years now so I don't know where I got the radiator but maybe it was from a larger 1.5 ton. You can see in the photo that I had to use longer bolts with a 1/2" copper tubing coupler. I also had to grind off a little of the cross member rear lip to clear the oil pan sump.

The other photo shows the DCPD part number 1393353. Can anyone id the radiator from this number ? 1393353

I also added some metal tabs to the front motor mount that reached back to the original mounting holes.

Since the original actually fits in the space provided you will be ahead to have a larger core installed.
