of the clutch pedal there is a tab which two bolts push against, one on the engine side, one on the tailgate side.

When you do the clutch pedal freeplay adjustment will both of these bolts touch the tab?

should the pedal travel 1" before making contact?

I will look in my shop manual tonight at home and see how much travel is suppose to be on the clutch pedal. I can't remember off the top of my head

I backed off one of the bolts so that the pedal moves before making contact with the bolt. I think this makes sense as there is a locking nut on the bolts. Off for a test drive to find out.

The shop manual says to adjust the bolts until there is between 1 and 1 1/8 inch pedal free play.
