I have had four cars woodgrained in the last 7 years. I had a guy in Auburn, Wash. do it as he is only 70 miles from me. The highest cost was around $900 including restoring the steering wheel. There's lots of people that do this all over the country. They try to do it as close to the original as they can. The finished product looks great but not exactly original. Check in Hemmings. There is a company on the net that sells kits to replicate the orignal designs and colors. I lost their address but I found it by googling woodgraining. There also is someone on the forum that restores dash boards. I don't know if he woodgrains though.

Here is what I have been experimenting with. My metal was worn and a little tired, but no completely gone. I took fine steel wool and rubbed it down. I then bought a gel stain that is used for metal and fiberglass doors, matching the finish as closea possible. Began putting several light coats of stain on, let it dry, recoat, dry resand, recoat, Finally sprayed with Clear sealer. Not show perfect but looks a ton better, costs less than 20 bucks, and it works for me
