maine48ply Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 My 1948 Plymouth Special Deluxe 4-door needs extensive rebuilding of the floor pan and new rockers. I would rather install prefabbed units but am having trouble locating some. This site: http://c2cfabrication.com/store/index.php?manufacturers_id=26&sort=3a&page=1 has some rockers and some floor pans for other Plymouth years (49-52). Can anyone tell me about any interchangeability between what these folks offer and what I need? I would be glad to find suitable units that may need some modification. Thanks, Mark Quote
maine48ply Posted April 19, 2010 Author Report Posted April 19, 2010 Thanks for the info, I checked the website and it appears he may have all the parts I'll need. The entire floor package costs $1350........i wasn't quite prepared for that. I may do more of my own fabricating than I planned. Quote
Troganin Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 Steel sheets work just as good and are alot cheaper. Cut out all the cancer and fab a piece to fit what you've cut out. Weld in new metal and enjoy. Be sure to paint or coat the new stuff to prevent rusting. Your flooring will cover up the fact that it isn't exactly the original shape. Quote
maine48ply Posted April 19, 2010 Author Report Posted April 19, 2010 How important is running the replacement sheets through a beader....is there a strength issue I need to be concerned with? Also, what gauge metal am I after. I am using 18 gauge for repair on my side panels. I am thinking I need something thicker for the floor. Quote
Troganin Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 16ga should be alright for the floor w/o any beading. Quote
maine48ply Posted April 19, 2010 Author Report Posted April 19, 2010 Thanks for your input....by the way, has all the snow in Buffalo melted yet? I ask because I grew up in Rochester and am familiar with the Lake Ontario snow belt. Quote
Troganin Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 Hahaha yeah...although some shady spots kept it for a surprisingly long time. I grew up in Rochester, if the wind came off that lake right in the winter... I bought an old ariens at the beginning of this year but the whole winter it and the plymouth were just as useful. Making my garage look full. As soon as it warmed up it seems to be just a bad tune. So glad I got it running to shoot pine cones. Which is pretty entertaining, btw. Quote
mackster Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 a while back on the hamb I saw a tech thread about making your own floor boards. it was really informative. I will look for it and try to post a link, maybe it will help... Quote
mackster Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 I hope this link works.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=435411&highlight=making+floor+panels if not you might try to put it directly in.... Quote

old rat 49 Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 On my P15 2 door sedan there was a ton of bondo and rust in the rockers. One side appears to be quite straight and the other has a bow fornt to rear between the fenders. Don't know of anyone in the Fayetteville NC area with a P15 to look at. I know the door and side has a bow; but does it straighten out at the rocker ? Pictures I look at seem to show the Rocker trim to be quite straight. Is it? Quote
Troganin Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 That is a great link. Bookmarked for when I do my floors. Quote
