Yesterday was the traditional first car meet of the season in the UK...

Surrey Street Rodders Wheels Day.

As always, a bunch of us met up at the Ace Cafe to cruise to the show together.

The weather forecast was atrocious, so some of the guys had already decided not to take their cars, although we did end up with 9, including mine and Deano's P15s and a really nice 60 Plymouth.

Anyway, the rain came... and fell hard... and turned the field into a swamp.

It also got really cold so we spent a lot of the time sitting in our cars.

Sadly, my car now has a problem with the exhaust. Either a small split or a loose baffle in one of the silencers. It's making a horrible noise and the balance of the engine has been thrown completely.

One to fix!

Even worse... one of the other guys had to have his 36 Ford coupe recovered from the roadside.

His generator bracket broke, launching the fan forward... through the rad!

It looked nasty!

All in all, an eventful day out.

I still enjoyed it, though!

Robin,

Far be it from me to philosophize about clouds and silver linings but I'll bet this event will be remembered long after others have faded from memory.

Robin I can not imagine even a lot of rain daunting the spirits of you intrepid gearhaeds . Adversity builds character. Glad you all stayed to the end. Our last cruise in last year also got rained on not out. I just sat in the back seat and visited with a car full of friends. Only the delicate rides ran away. Frank

Deano,

Thanks for posting the great photos.

What was the year and make of the truck that was hauling the Rt 66 Diner?

It was AWESOME to see the Henry J and Diamond T pickup, guess I never have it thought that they would have been exported to Great Britian also.

Thanks again,

Bob

You're welcome Bob!

Re: the truck, I have no idea of year or model I'm afraid.

We only managed to get out and about very occasionally in between the heavy rain showers, and had to be a bit selective with what we spent time looking at!

Still, we were lucky there were so many other crazy people taking their cars along.

Maybe Robin can shed some light?

Hey Bob,

I am reliably informed that the truck hauling the Route 66 Diner is a 1947 Diamond T.:)
