55 Fargo Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 Hi all, found a local country upholsterer to install headliner, and to cut /sew and install carpet. He will cut and sew my carpet, he will supply underlay, that is $250. He will install a premade headliner, he will make the windlace, and install, this is $400, so for a total of $650, plus the cost for my ready made headliner, can have these 2 jobs done. What do you Guy's think, or should I take a run at this myself, and save buck$.........Fred Quote
Don Coatney Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 Fred; I think you should do yours for practice. Once you get yours perfected fly down and do my car. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 Fred--the guy who cut, bound and installed my carpet and pad, in both the car & trunk, charged me $250. I had both items, he did furnish some vinyl material for binding. He also charged me $250 to make a boot for when the top is down, using the Hartz canvas material I provided. So, I'd say the man is about right for what he's doing. Are you going to have him do a place like mine to fold back if you need to access the master cylinder? Quote

I will be getting a very similar access to the MC hatch, would not want it any other way...Fred Quote

You may be waiting a longtime, for me to perfect this job, uncharted territory for the most part. The upholsterer did say however, that I did a very decent job with the door panels. Least I got some of the interior right, the seats are done well too, by anohter Guy, who does not do headliners and carpets........ Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 At least you found someone to do what the first man, or you, couldn't. Fold--back part of the carpeting for anyone else interested. I think he glued the felt padding to the carpet in that area. He also installed a vinyl heel pad beneath the pedals. I actually didn't want that vinyl thing, but failed to tell him that fact specifically. When I went to get the car, he had installed a black pad - so then I took him my maroon one I had purposely not provided, and he glued it on top of the black one. Sometimes you gotta be REAL specific with people. Live and learn, I guess. I also had the fellow make me two square floor mats for the front from left over carpet. They are pretty light duty, but you can put them in for a show. Quote
