Powerhouse Posted March 18, 2010 Report Posted March 18, 2010 Hey all, Is there a rubber rear main seal made for the 47? or is there only the rope type? Is either one better if so? Thanks. Quote
desoto1939 Posted March 18, 2010 Report Posted March 18, 2010 If i remember correct your 39 used the rope seal and the chrylsers later on used the rubber seal. Rich Hartung Quote
Powerhouse Posted March 18, 2010 Author Report Posted March 18, 2010 Sorry I meant I need one for a 47 plymouth engine....thanks. I thought someone made a poly one to replace the rope kind. Was it VPW? Any thoughts on that guys? Quote
Powerhouse Posted March 21, 2010 Author Report Posted March 21, 2010 So I found out that the neoprene will NOT fit the old rubber type from VPW. They said the block needs to be machined to fit the newer style one. I guess I'll have to play with the rope one. Quote
steveplym Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 I bought a rear main seal kit from roberts motor parts. If I remember correctly it was rubber. Quote
Powerhouse Posted March 22, 2010 Author Report Posted March 22, 2010 the guy at VPW said I needed a rope type unless I had a groove machined in. He also said no matter what it's still gonna leak a bit...hahaha Quote
steveplym Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 You may be right I've slept since then. I remember though it didn't leak for a while, then it seeped a bit. Can't complain though, no big drips on the floor yet. Quote
Powerhouse Posted March 23, 2010 Author Report Posted March 23, 2010 Well, as I've heard somewhere before....it's just marking it's territory. Quote
