Thomba48 Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 Hi, on ebay there are always quite a few kickpanels on offer - made out of cardboard I believe. Is this what they were made of originally? Not maybe wood and then covered with some sort of fabric? Who does good ones? Thanks/ Thom Quote
Oldguy48 Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 Mine were definitely not made of wood. The material seemed to be a thick sort of cardboard. I purchased a new set from E-Bay, and they were of similar material. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 They were originally cardboard.......a grey sort of color in a P15. Quote
55 Fargo Posted January 25, 2010 Report Posted January 25, 2010 I used 1/8 backer board, it is a dense black cardboard sold in the auto upholstery business for the purpose of making panels. I had no old kick panels for reference, so made my own pattern, used 1/4 inch foam, covered with blue vinyl, used 3M SAuper 77 spray adhesive to fasten on the vinyl. Worked great look okay, fastened with stainless screws and decorative washer, could have, and maybe should have used panel clips, more work, but no screws to be seen.................Fred Quote
Fireball Posted January 25, 2010 Report Posted January 25, 2010 I've been using the advertising board plastic nowadays. The one they are using on roadside ads, kinda honeycomb structure. It is easy to form with carpet knife, is light and doesn't suck moisture or warp like wood and cardboard. I will take pics of the finished product after I get the upholstering done. Quote

That is corroplast sheeting, it may bea good thing, I am going to use it for the panel that seperates the trunk and backseat. I am a bit concerned it may warp in the heat of summer, but most likely it will not, the trick is to get it in the right thickness Quote
