p24-1953 Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 it looks like i have few drops of oil on the ground at the tail of the transmision. should i be concerned? is this a sign the rear seal is bad? or will it stop after i run it for a while. what else would cause this? Quote
alan32433 Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 You said it was a new transmission. Is it a rebuilt original, manual or semi-automatic? Either way there's nothing there to leak except the rear transmission seal. I've never heard of a leak going away, good thing is rear seals are usually not too hard to replace. Several things can make a new seal leak. Damage on installation, assembled dry (no break in lube), or a worn yolk, the rotating part the seal mates to. Quote
Frank M. Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 Alan hit the nail right on the head. Leaks there are not uncommon. I have usually found the yoke to be worn also. They have a Redi-sleeve to go over it and make the wearing surface like new. Frank M. Quote
Lou Earle Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 Also what lube are u running- To thin a lube can cause a leak-not usually but I have seen it. Overfilling can be a problem also- hard to do in a plym but it has happened. Was in a Food shop an third and cherry Wednesday- Saw you pull up to light and drive off - really looks greaat Lou Quote
