aero3113 Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Just curious if anyone is using stainless hardware on their cars. Or just plain old grade 5. Grade 5 does have a coating to try and prevent corrosion right? Quote
Don Coatney Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Just curious if anyone is using stainless hardware on their cars. Or just plain old grade 5. Grade 5 does have a coating to try and prevent corrosion right? The grade number makes reference to strength not any coating. Most stainless is grade 2. And grade 2 is the "plain old" stove bolts not grade 5. Grade 8 is prefered for any critical fasteners such as engine mounts, driveshafts, etc. Quote
martybose Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 I'm using stainless for all of the brackets and minor bolts, and grade 8 for things like the driveshaft. Marty Quote
