MBF Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 I went to several known hardware stores to get a copy made and none had any blanks. I finally stumbled across an old locksmith that had 1 blank in stock that made my copy. He said if he didn't have the blank hanging on the wall that he'd be able to get it-I'd try that route. Look for a guy with graying hair and a pot belly that's been doing locks for awhile. Mike Quote
Dennis_MN Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 I went to a locksmith in Roseville, Mn called Davis Locks up on Rice and the key blank is made by ilco 1125H H5 Hope that helps Dennis Quote
Bradley S. Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 The locksmith that made my spare keys said the blank was an old Ford key blank. Quote
Zeke1953 Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 You have to go to a locksmith; those guys in the hardware stores won't be able to help. When I had my keys made, they said it was a very common blank. I was surprised to hear that, but I walked out with two copies for a total of $3.00. Zeke Quote
bearheart Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 I have seen several vendors of keys on ebay and bought some for my 49 coronet. Do a search using your year and make and you'll probably come up with something. Quote
townwagon Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 I ordered in a box of them years ago, and I still have some of them left. If you can't find any local contact me at townwagon(remove this)@yahoo.com, just remove the (remove this) anti spam device and I will sell you a couple. Eric Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 These days it seems the trick is finding an OLD locksmith or shop. The lock shops here will copy a key if they have the blank....but don't seem to be able to create a new key to fit an existing old lock, such as ignition or trunk. My son-in-law has been working with a guy in Kansas City who seems to know this old stuff. If anyone lives in that area, I can ask the man's name & other info. Quote
austinsailor Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 Adams lock in Columbia, Mo. can do them as well. Problem I've found is they have to buy a box of keys, not one, and you buy the box. End up costing $25 - $30 for the first key. Probably why Eric has a bunch. Quote
