Any experience working on these?

I had to tear down the trans to replace the slide gear with a broken tooth and I was wondering if it is worth going inside the OD to see what it looks like. It needs a good cleaning out from what I can see.

I do need to find out how to remove the the spacer plate that was between the trans and the OD because the gasket will need to be replaced.

Any help will be most appreciated.

Thanks.

If you click above on "Return to P15-D24.Com" then go to "Downloads" you can download a copy of the Borg Warner Overdrive manual that provides directions on disassembling the later model overdrive. I would think it would provide some guidance for your '38.

The 1938 DeSoto S5 OD is a centrifical OD completely different than a R10. It's a AS2-T85A warner R-6 OD unit. You need a old National Data book or factory shop manual for complete info. I would leave the back 1/2 alone and put it back in-simple job and see if it works and is quiet. Then later when you get more info take it out and go into it if you need to..
