could anyone tell me what the part number for the input shaft of a 53 plymouth hydrive transmission?

Depends whether the case is stamped PT which means - Pin Type syncro's are installed in the transmission.

Pin Type syncro is a part #1486091

Strut type syncro is Part # 1408463

My #'s are out of 1954 full line master parts book. This is the Part# for the main drive pinion shaft or as you asked for "Input shaft" that the clutch disc fits over.

Dodgeb4ya, could you do me one more favor? could you tell me the part number for a main cluster gear for a 53 hydrive? are they different from the strut type gears of the 40's (fast second) i was thinking that they had a special second gear ratio and would have to be specific to hydrive. Am I wrong in thinking this?

Pin type and strut type 2nd gears/syncro's have to match the PT or strut type input shafts. Yes the 2nd speed gear is fast 2nd in the Hy-Drive trans. 1486637 is the part# for the Hy-Drive cluster gear. Hy-Drive transmissions have different gear sets inside. Teeth counts are different. You can convert a fast 2nd gear Hy-Drive trans to a regular input shaft 3 speed trans by replacing the fine spline Hy-Drive input shaft with a regular 10 spline input shaft of either PT or strut type input to match the Hy-Drive 2nd gear syncro. To turn a Hy-Drive into a OD you need to swap H-D 1st/2nd gears/syncro's onto the OD mainshaft /swap all case gears into a OD front case.

so it sounds like i will need to send george my entire transmassion rather than sending him a new input shaft and cluster gears.

George knows what to do to get your job done. You need to ask him what all he needs/wants to make up the trans you want.
