Hey guys have a question. I will need knee replacement in the near future and the truck I am working on has a Chrysler 251 spitfire engine. The engine has a stomp starter. I was thinking it would be better for my knee if I were to switch to a key switch/solenoid type starter. I have a plymouth 218 starter but it is shorter than the one from the chrysler. The starter housing on the chrysler has a longer snout and it also has a broken bolt ear so it needs work anyway. Any suggestions on what starter I should get and what apparatus will be needed to make the switch. It has a 12V system with a two wire alternater all ready in place.

Thanks for your input.

I think any of the mid to late 50's car (w flathead 6) starters would work-but I think some of them used a remote solenoid. Good luck with your surgery. Mike

Thanks guys for info. I will probably go with the remote solenoid as my wife has expressed some interest in driving miss dolly and she can't push down hard enuff to engage the starter. Never hurts to get wife interested. Helps justify purchases.
