baldbusdriver Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 I thought you folks might want to see what I've got as a starting point. the worst rust is in the back as you can see. the rest is really good and original too! there's lots for me to do, but it gives me the liberty to put a little bit of "me" into this beauty. JerseyHarold Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 The car has lots of potential. How did you strip the paint? Quote
baldbusdriver Posted November 1, 2009 Author Report Posted November 1, 2009 this is how I bought it. the previous owner took it down to metal with lots of elbow grease, sand paper, wire wheels and scotchbright pads. he had lost his job and decided to do some work, the found out his wife was prego, so needed to sell quick. I paid $1800. not sure if it was a good deal or not, but I'm happy and that all that really matter right? the motor runs real good and quiet, no major smoke, the carb leaks some but the engine looks to be untouched and sure sounds like it. dezeldoc Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 Other than a couple of extra doors it is pretty darn clean! Quote
baldbusdriver Posted November 1, 2009 Author Report Posted November 1, 2009 well, yeah it has 2 extra doors, but I kinda like the profile of the 4 door, just draws me in! besides, everyone knows coupes are for chickens! now if I could find a 41 coupe in the same price range and condition I would cluck like you've never heard before! dezeldoc Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 A guy down the street has a pretty complete one he wants 6500 for it! Quote
baldbusdriver Posted November 1, 2009 Author Report Posted November 1, 2009 (edited) ouch! thats more scratch than I can come up with. an old friend of mine used to own a vintage mopar parts store, he had the sweetest 41 coupe, mild flattie, vacuum assisted shifter on the stock 3spd, lowered bout 3in all round. I've been lusting for one ever since. but usually when I find one its either total swiss cheese or more money than i earn in a 6 month stretch! as it is I need to sell my vw thing to finance the build on my 48. P-12 Tommy Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 I knew a cop back in my old hometown that had a VW Thing in '75. It was odd looking. Tom Quote
baldbusdriver Posted November 1, 2009 Author Report Posted November 1, 2009 yup. there are definatley a bit of the "different" side as far as looks go. but they are a simple car to work on, relatively cheap and plenty of fun to drive. I got it in trade for a 63 falcon hardtop I had rebuilt. then I found my p15 and knew I had to have it, so the thing has gotta go. Quote
