Don St Peter Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 My 40 Ply P-9 has an original 6 V electrical system. The gen. seems to keep my batt. up ok, but why does the amp meter needle go to zero on start up with a low battery instead of to plus. After a while it goes to neutral?? Thanks Don Quote
Niel Hoback Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Are you sure the battery positive post is the ground? Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Right, it should just bounce a little but not to zero:) Quote
Jim Saraceno Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 why does the amp meter needle go to zero on start up with a low battery instead of to plus. After a while it goes to neutral?? Actually, if your ammeter is like mine, zero is neutral. I assume your saying that your meter shows it is discharging (to the left of zero) when it should be showing charging (to the right of zero). As the others suggested, your ammeter is wired backwards or a previous owner grounded the negative instead of the positive (and now your reading backwards). Quote
