Dan Babb Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 Spent a good amount of time with my "cheap is beautiful" project. 1) Removed the wood bed. Sanded down some rust on the side rails of the bed and underneath. Then hit the spots with some rustoleum to help keep the rust at bay a bit. The tractor green color is a perfect match. Cleaned the wood with some deck cleaner and a bit of scrubbing. Then stained the wood. I had to go with a darker color than I wanted because of some oil stains on the wood that wouldn't come out. Came out better than I thought. Not yet attached...ordered some stainless hardware from McMaster so they bolts won't rust. I know the wood pieces aren't the right size and I don't have the metal trim, but I really am on a budget for now. 2) Took off the running board and sanded off the rust on the underside. Then shot it with some flat black paint. Before: After: 3) Finished trimming the homemade floor mat - used a 1/4" thick truck bed mat I found at Tractor Supply. Still need to get something to hold it down in a few spots - so it pull up when I use the pedals. Next on the list is new tires (the current ones are flat spotted from sitting too long) and a change of filters/fluids. Quote
Bob_Koch Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 Looks like a good days work. The nice thing about these trucks is you can do them on a tight budget and some ingenuity. Quote
1955 plymouth Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 Nice looking truck. don't feel bad about the bed, it works for now and if you are happy for now that is really all thet matters. I think I see a Camaro on the other side of your truck:cool:, that must be fun to drive huh? I have a Chevelle and I drove it yesterday around town, it's real hard to resit the urge to spin the back tires each time I take off from a stop, totally different sensation from driving my old '52 B3B:D Quote
Dan Babb Posted October 13, 2009 Author Report Posted October 13, 2009 Yes, that's my 68 Camaro. It's fun to drive because I've done some very good suspension upgrades, so it handles well around corners. 408cu.in motor and a 4 speed help push it along. Here's a picture a friend took at a car show in Reidsville, NC over the weekend. Quote
Willis Pingel Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Nice looking truck. Mines coming along, hopefully by spring. What tractor paint color did you use? I'm useing Oliver Green and it looks a little darker than yours. Keep up the good work. Bill Quote
Dan Babb Posted October 14, 2009 Author Report Posted October 14, 2009 The Rustoleum can says Dark Hunter Green. I call it tractor green because that's what it looks like to me. Quote
1955 plymouth Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Yes, very nice car, that powertrain sound like alot of fun too, my Chevelle has a hopped up 350 with a 350 turbo auto underneith, and I am jealous of your truck, mine has a lot of work to be that respectable, anyways, like I said before, if it makes you happy, who cares, we are having fun and that is all that matters.
