n1gzd_plymouth Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 I forgot to add, that I did just blindly copy the old wires, I checked the diagrams and identified everything first but having the old wires still connected provided more information to cross reference. that was the key thing. always cross reference each connection with a couple of sources and then you be very sure that it is correct. doing this is pretty easy. Jim Yergin Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 Rebecca, That is very impressive. Thanks for sharing. FYI, even after posting something, the author can go back and edit the posting. Just click on the edit button. I know with my typing skills (or lack thereof) that is a useful feature. boxer_inv Posted September 25, 2009 Author Report Posted September 25, 2009 Rebecca Hi and thanks for your post - great! I'm no auto electrician but I've done some 12v stuff in the past, mostly 'thump thump' car audio stuff way back in the days.... (well, maybe not so long ago really! )...so the prospect of this job isn't too bad. I looked into getting a harness made up - place in Australia called Vintage Wiring Harness, but in the end, just couldn't justify the $$$$, especially since my car won't ever be a 'show stopper' or points car. So, going the route of doing it myself. All in all, I've spent around $200 on the wires and stuff so far, that includes terminals, split loom tooooobing, heat shrink and a nice new "u beaut" wire stripper/crimper. I have the wiring diagrams in the book and also others from the forum here that have been kindly posted by others, so that should see me right. PLUS (and for me, this is one of the ways I kind of get things right in my head before doing projects like this), I've spent some time just "looking" at the engine bay wiring, tracing its route, identifying the various switches, connections and terminals etc etc. Guess you could say I'm trying to get real familiar with my 62 year old car... Updates in due course. Rob (the OTHER Aussie) Quote
