michael_fahie Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 I was looking to buy this truck the other day and the guy told me it was a 1 ton converted into a pickup. I was just wondering if there is any cab difference or other differences that I should know about before I get it. It looks to be in good shape and the price seems to be fair. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, here's a link to the page if you want a look. http://halifax.kijiji.ca/c-ViewAdLargeImage?AdId=139969783&img=http%3A%2F%2Fimg1.classistatic.com%2Fcps%2Fkj%2F090704%2F073r1%2F9470an8_18.jpeg Quote
townwagon Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 A 1 ton has 6 bolt budd wheels, and a 7 1/2 or 9 foot bed, even in Canada. That looks like a 1/2 ton with a 6 1/2 foot bed to me, so unless they shortened the frame and replaced the axles I would guess it is a 1/2 ton. As for buying it or not, the replacement running boards, hanging out rear edge of the front fender, and the likely repaint make me wonder if this pretty truck is hiding tons of rust. I would inspect it in person or get a lot more pictures before going further. Good luck, Eric Quote
michael_fahie Posted July 19, 2009 Author Report Posted July 19, 2009 I went and looked at it, the rust didn't seem too bad. I think the model was a B1C which makes it a 3/4 ton, I think. I don't know if that would make sense for the axles of not. They did do a hack job on the firewall trying to put a 318 in it and as for the fenders......well I couldn't even see what they were supposed to be bolted to at the bottom, they were just kind of floating there. Some pics of this area would be great if any one has them. One crossmember was bad and a couple of the supports for the home made step ups were bad also. My plans are to make a hot rod out of it, the wrong people have been at it so it would be a hard rig to restore. It is close to me and I could probably get it for $1500 I really do like these pickups and have been looking for one for a while. Thanks for the info and incite please keep it coming. Quote
48Dodger Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 (edited) Front emblem is wrong, running boards wrong, to see deep rust and new paint (rattle can) is suspect, over spray on the tires that still matches the fender color doesn't help either. Good shape? Maybe. Was the fuel injected engine (not runnin) put in right, and how much is missing to make it run? How much rearend work was done to match the engine swap? Just thinking out loud. 1800.00.....I don't know. I've been fortunate enough to have paid a lot less for the trucks I have. Go see it, and be honest with yourself in what it would take to make it the truck you want. Otherwise, that can be a lot of money for yard art. Good luck. 48D I posted this before I read your second post. Here's a link to a few videos I made on how to remove the front sheet metal. Maybe it'll help you see what's missing. http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=16161 Edited July 19, 2009 by 48dodger Quote
michael_fahie Posted July 19, 2009 Author Report Posted July 19, 2009 Those videos were perfect. I think the brackets that are on the fender and unbolt from the inside are missing. I'm going to take another look at it this week and i'll take a lot of pics. Thanks for the help. Quote
MBF Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 Looking at the running boards makes me believe that this may have been a 3/4 ton rack body converted to a pickup (remove the rack body, and install a box). I'd look it over very carefully and realistically before you hand over any money. A quick paint job can hide a lot of sins. Just my 2 cents. Mike Quote
