Bradley S. Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 Hi; Say, how do I remove the wiper motor switch? I am thinking there must be a trick to it. Hammer and chisel work? Any other tricks to removing the wiper motor? Thanks!!!! Brad Quote
townwagon Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 I just got a call from my machinist, and he just finished the tool I had him make for removing the wiper switch nut on a 48-53 truck. I should have them ready to sell in a couple days. I have tested the prototype on a lot of the switch nuts, and it works great. Eric Quote
Merle Coggins Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 I used a pair of pliers, gently, on mine and got lucky as it wasn't too tight. Tape wrapped around the jaws will help protect it from damage. Or get one of Eric's tools. Merle Quote
Bradley S. Posted July 16, 2009 Author Report Posted July 16, 2009 Thanks Merle; So it is just pressed on a spline? Quote
Merle Coggins Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 The knob pulls off of the switch, then there is a round nut with a couple of slots in the top that holds the switch into the dash. Eric's tool would grab the nut by those slots to loosen/tighten it. Or my method was to gently grip the round nut with pliers to loosen it. Once the nut is removed the switch can be removed from under the dash. Do you have vaccume or electric wipers? If you have vaccume wipers than the switch is nothing more than a lever that activates a valve on the wiper motor. Merle Quote
townwagon Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 If you are interested in one I should have them on E-bay in the next couple days. I will post on the forum when they are up. I only have 9, and they will be priced at $21 each. The shipping should be about $2.90. They can be combined with the cable and switch nut tool for the same shipping costs. Eric Quote
