DanOlson Posted July 10, 2009 Report Posted July 10, 2009 For those of you that have replaced the draft tube with a PCV valve, do you have detailed pictures of how you plumbed it? I talked to VPW and apparantly I can not use their kit because I don't have the proper threaded port on my intake manifold. Dan Olson Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 10, 2009 Report Posted July 10, 2009 It is possible to drill and tap a port into the intake manifold. Quote
DanOlson Posted July 10, 2009 Author Report Posted July 10, 2009 That's why I'd like to see ahead of time where VPW's kit is supposed to fit. Dan Quote
MBF Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 I don't have a pic, but I used an existing tapped and plugged vacuum port on the manifold and t'd if off the wiper vacuum source. Mike Quote
grey beard Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 Hi Dan, Here is a pic of my own engine with the VPW PCV system installed. My manifold had a pipe plug at the point you see that served just fine for a port for the PCV. If your manifold is off, you could easily do as Don suggested and drill and tap it. What many folks fail to realize is that when you pull vacuum on your crankcase - as is done with every PCV system, there needs to be an equal size air inlet somewhere for fresh air to replace that which was pulled out. This is the ingredient many fail to realize is necessary for the system to work. Modern vehicles - which all have PCV systems - all have a small hose from a valve cover to the air breather to pull in filtered air. Having said all that, I've included another pic of the left side of my engine, where air is pulled into the crankcase. I was able to find a top for my oil fill tube that has a spring-loaded lid. I drilled a hole in the side of this for a piece of heater hose, and ran this into the air cleaner. I endorse the concept of PCV systems on our L6 engines. It's the best way to keep them clean inside - especially for people who seldom drive enough to get the entire engine block up to temperatures - likely an hour or more. Hope this is helpful. 1 Quote
DanOlson Posted July 11, 2009 Author Report Posted July 11, 2009 Perfect, thanks. I have the boss on the manifold but not drilled and tapped. I'm going to go ahead and order the kit and add it to the to-do list for this winter. Quote
