Bob_Koch Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 Dang - How do I get one of these and get it across the ocean? I feel like pavlov's dog everytime I see one of these - I immediately start drooling. This butte even comes with a 340 engine. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/1954-DODGE-FARGO-UTE_W0QQitemZ300072378717QQihZ020QQcategoryZ101895QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Quote

Reg Evans Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 Anthony, I did what ya said and didn't have any luck finding the guy from Oklahoma with the old ass american cars. I NEED a UTE !!!!! help. Quote
Tony WestOZ Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Reg, I see Mick has got has tail gate section. Thanks for helping him out. I still have not sent him a grill bar yet and it was orginised at the same time. Glad one of us is on the ball. Reg, Bob and others, As a matter if interest (I definatly don`t have the money to do it) which would be worth more in the US. A truck like this one that has had a bit done to it or a more original truck. Both trucks being of the same quality of finish. Tony Forgot , strange to have a 340 in it. 340`s are thin on the ground in Australia. They are very muck sort after by the Australian built Charger guys. Quote
Reg Evans Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Just my personal preference but I would rather have an original with maybe a few bolt on enhancements. To each his own. Quote
Bob_Koch Posted January 24, 2007 Author Report Posted January 24, 2007 I doubt I would ever have the money to buy one of these trucks in all reality, but I like to dream. I think the pilothouse ute's are some of the best looking trucks around. I really don't care if it's been modified along as it was done to keep the overall integrity intact. The fact that it had a 340 was surprising and I'm sure would give quite a thrilling ride. 340's aren't that easy to come by here in the states either. By the way Reg - saw in the P15 forum the news of the wonderful car you just bought. What a terrific find. It should be an exciting weekend when that arrives. Good for you. Let us all know when we can come up for a ride around town in your new car. I'll bring the beer (oops, sorry, I meant vodka). Quote
Reg Evans Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Thanks Bob, "Pearl" has already arrived. The seller drove 1900 miles towing an enclosed trailer. He left last Thursday morning and arrived her Saturday morning at around 10. Amazing ! I named the car Pearl in honor of the lady that bought the car new in 1940 in Oshkosh by gosh. The car came with a copy of the original bill of sale. I was able to do a little detective work and spoke with Pearls 80 year old daughter yesterday. She and her son are going to send me all the original paperwork and any photos they can find. The car really does only have 34,900 miles on it. I have always wished I had the history on my old cars and on this one my wish came true. Come on up anytime Bob. Bartender......a free round of Vaakah all around !!!!! Here's to PEARL. Here's pearl at her new home. Quote
Guest Dave Claussen Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 Reg, You are one lucky dog. That is one sweet little ride. You must be livin' right to find a gem like that. Hope you have many fun little trips with "Pearl". I am so jealous. Enjoy! Quote
Guest jtw3749c Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 When I got my DeSoto, I got part of a story from the guy I it from. Then I found a bunch of papers in the car that had some minor information. But the one part that stood out, was the original owners granddaughter lives about 15 miles from me. She sent me some early pictures of the car and her Grandfather. It had a dealer name on the back and I chased that down before talking the her and got to talk to the mechanic who worked on the car until 1963, when the owner moved here with the DeSoto. The mechanic is now 85. The granddaughter said her grandfather kept a diary on the car and she would give them to me once she locates them in the boxes of stuff. Mine has 72000 miles on it. JT Quote
Reg Evans Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 Great Story JT. I love this kind of stuff! It's what drew me to this hobby and keeps me excited about these old cars. I think I'll try finding the owner of my 52 1/2 ton. I saved a receipt I found in it's glove box with the name of a man in Sacramento. Maybe I'll get lucky there too. Quote

Anthony83 Do you realize that UTEs were only made in Australia? The bodies differ from America production trucks! The guy in Oklahoma may have the same basic climate as some areas in OZ but I would highly doubt that he has any UTEs. He may have some vintage Dodge trucks but not the elusive UTEs. Please note in the pictures below that the cab and bed are one piece not seperate pieces like here in the states. Also you may note that the steering wheels are located on the wrong side? Quote
Tony WestOZ Posted February 2, 2007 Report Posted February 2, 2007 I knew I had seen a proper WC or DD coupe front utility somewhere. Thank`s Lee, you must have shown this pic before and I never saved it. I have only ever seen one of these. Quote

junkyardjeff Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 A panel truck plus a roof from a 41 to 48 coupe and one could be built. Jeff Quote
