BobT-47P15 Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 Our electricity went off last Sunday afternoon about 2:30 and was finally restored this afternoon (Fri). No heat or lights. It was freezing rain and sleet, not snow. So we stayed at the home of my brother-in-law, who is in Florida and missed all this storm.....the worst in this part of the country in many years. His house is located in an area about 10 miles from here where they never lost power. All our local motels (and there are quite a few) were filled with a combination of line repairmen brought in from all over the U.S., travelers, and local folks without power. One lineman from Iowa said that in his 22 years in the business, he has never seen a worse ice storm than this. Some people still have no electricity, and it may be another two weeks or so before they get it back. Utility companies are running out of new poles to replace broken ones. Several area towns, they say, look like a war zone.....tops out of many, many trees....trees across roads and onto houses.....power and phone lines down....water systems out due to no electricity......some towns virtually shut down completely. So, it felt real good this afternoon to be able to return home and crank up the furnace. And use the computer. Quote
